THERAPIES
Here at Ithaca Physiotherapy we offer a range of therapies which are always personalised to meet your needs. Our Physiotherapists assess and plan the most effective treatment plan to achieve the desirable outcomes.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy uses audible high-energy sound waves that target injured or damaged tissue, with patients reporting significant pain reduction after 3-5 sessions. It is well known for its successful application in long standing conditions, specifically where there is scar tissue or calcification involvement. Shockwave therapy results in regeneration of new tissue thus restoring mobility and improving discomfort.
Tecar Therapy
TECAR therapy is a form of combined diathermy and electrotherapy used to treat both acute and chronic conditions. Here at our clinic we use the latest TECAR therapy machine Fisiowarm 7.0 proven to be the most effective, safe and complete machine, guaranteeing endless treatment possibilities. TECAR has the ability to activate the body’s natural repair process thus promoting faster functional recovery.
Combination Therapy
Combination therapy is the simultaneous application of ultrasound and electrotherapy and has a broad range of applications across multiple conditions. By combining both of these treatment modalities, physiological benefits are enhanced in one application to give the optimal therapeutic effect for an injury. It is widely used to decrease pain in acute and chronic injuries, improve range of motion and optimise recovery.
Electrotherapy
Electrotherapy, also known as electrical muscle stimulation, is a popular modality in physiotherapy and rehabilitation as it has been scientifically proved to reduce pain and promote muscle healing and tissue regeneration. Our clinic uses one of the most popular electrotherapy machines distributed to physiotherapists all over the world and thus the effectiveness of this machine is guaranteed.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a common therapeutic modality used in most physiotherapy practices which emits sound waves that penetrate deep into the soft tissue. With the main physiological benefits being reduction in pain and increase in flexibility, this type of treatment can be used for conditions including and not limited to, muscle strains and tears, ligament injuries, tendonitis, frozen shoulder and joint contractures.

Electric Muscle Stimulator
Electric muscle stimulation is a unique adjunct applied in physiotherapy which performs electric stimulation to muscle fibres and sensitive nerve fibres. This leads to increased muscle strength and tone, improved performance, decrease in muscular tension, reduced muscle and joint damage and decrease in pain. For optimal results, this therapy can be complimented with exercise and a balanced healthy lifestyle.
Dynamic Air Compression
Dynamic air compression is provided at the clinic using the Normatec 2.0 leg boots. Professional athletes such as Anthony Joshua and Gareth Bale are among many that use these compression boots as part of their recovery regimen. These boots are also used to help you prepare for your workout, minimise fluid retention if you stand or sit for long hours at work, control lymphoedema or relieve swelling post-surgery.
Kinesio Taping
Kinesio taping is a therapeutic modality used to improve one’s functional performance by improving mobility and supporting joints, muscles, and tendons. Kinesio taping has different types of applications to tailor around the problem area and target the specific soft tissue involved. The main advantage of this modality is that it can be applied at any stage of rehabilitation for pain management, swelling and support.
Ergon IASTM
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation is a skilled intervention used in physiotherapy which effectively breaks down fascial restrictions and scar tissue using specialised tools. Our clinic uses the ERGON technique to restore elasticity of soft tissues, reduce pain and muscle spasms, improve range of motion by restoring the biomechanical function of the joint and correct postural alterations.
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is a clinical hands-on approach used in physiotherapy to decrease pain and improve the mobility of joints, soft tissues and nerves. Manual therapy is used to assess, diagnose and treat a variety of symptoms and conditions. The techniques commonly used are massage, trigger point therapy, assisted active range of motion, passive range of motion, stretches and joint mobilisation.
Education
Our clinic highlights the importance of educating our patients around their injury to improve their quality of life and speed up their recovery. We offer advice and information regarding overall wellbeing with the aim to minimise the risk of future injuries. This is essential to ensure our patients achieve their desired goals whilst we provide full support throughout their entire rehabilitation journey.
